A thorough examination of the mouth prior to construction of complete dentures in necessary to identify potential problem areas. A determination of whether surgery is necessary is an essential part of the examination and plays an important role in successful patient management. Many conditions such as tuberosity interferences sharp spiny ridge projections, bony protrusions and soft tissue deformities, should be corrected prior to denture construction to improve the treatment prognosis and reduce the number of postinsertion adjustments.
After the preprosthetic surgery alveolar ridge volumes can be changed. In this study the photogrammetric method was used for measuring deformations of soft tissue in three dimensions for 3 dentate patients. Photographs were taken of every patient prior to and following surgery and then a stereo pair of photographs were obtained.
Photogrammetric evaluation produces a collection of digital data provide to evaluation of soft tissue deformation.
